Russia target regions in Ukraine: Zelenskiy reports downing of Su-25 bomber

Russian assaults on Ukraine’s Kharkiv and Dnipro regions, along with the Black Sea port city of Odesa, resulted in the deaths of at least two civilians, ignited a food factory, and inflicted damage on infrastructure, residences, and commercial properties on Saturday, according to regional officials.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy disclosed that Russia launched eight missiles and nearly 70 guided aerial bombs targeting communities and front-line positions throughout the day. This followed Ukraine’s air force intercepting 13 Shahed drones that had targeted the Kharkiv and Dnipro regions overnight.

Zelenskiy condemned Moscow’s lack of interest in peace, emphasizing that Russia must be compelled to leave Ukraine alone. He expressed hope for success at the upcoming world peace summit in Switzerland, which will proceed without Russia’s involvement.

Zelenskiy reported that Ukraine’s 110th mechanized brigade shot down a Russian Su-25 fighter-bomber in the eastern Donetsk region, an area Moscow claims to have annexed.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated that Moscow had gained control over 547 square kilometers (211 square miles) of Ukrainian land since the beginning of this year.

Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv region, confirmed that a Russian bombardment killed a 49-year-old man in the village of Slobozhanske. An 82-year-old woman was also killed and two men injured during overnight shelling in Kharkiv city. Furthermore, a Russian missile attack sparked a fire in an industrial district of Kharkiv, injuring six employees, including at a food factory.

In Odesa, regional governor Oleh Kiper reported three injuries from a missile strike in the city.

Reports of casualties and damage could not be immediately verified by Reuters.

Air defense successfully intercepted all 13 attack drones overnight, although falling debris injured four individuals and caused a fire in an office building, according to Syniehubov.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, shelling injured a 57-year-old woman and inflicted damage on infrastructure near Nikopol, close to the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Two individuals were also wounded in another overnight attack, as reported by regional governor Serhiy Lysak.
