Hart superintendent reflects on Principal Troy Moran’s sudden death

Just days after the unexpected passing of Troy Moran, principal of Hart High School, he is being fondly remembered as a dedicated father, inspiring leader, and a bright presence in West Michigan.

Moran tragically passed away at the age of 46 from a heart attack while out for a run last Saturday, as reported by the Oceana County Press. He had served as principal of Hart High School since 2021. Mark Platt, Superintendent of Hart Public Schools and a close friend of Moran for over 20 years, expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing that Moran’s loss was not just professional but deeply personal.

Despite the shock, classes continued on Monday, with both staff and students grappling with the news of Moran’s sudden death. Platt described the atmosphere as “numb and disbelief,” with an outpouring of tears and support among the school community.

Moran’s infectious personality and uplifting laughter made him a beloved figure at the school. Platt noted that Moran had a remarkable ability to connect with students from all backgrounds, making him highly effective and respected in his role.
