As she sat down for the men’s final near center court at Wimbledon on Sunday, Kate Middleton was greeted with a standing ovation. This was only her second public appearance since she announced her cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

On Saturday, Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales, who is a patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, would be present to watch the match and then deliver the trophy to the winner between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Before taking her seat in the Royal Box at Centre Court, Middleton, accompanied by her daughter Princess Charlotte, met with 2021 U.S. Emma Raducanu, the Open champion, and the young tennis players from Britain.  The Associated Press reported that Middleton wore purple, one of the tournament’s official colors.

“Great to be back at Wimbledon!” Middleton wrote on social media, sharing photos of herself at the match. “There’s nothing quite like The Championships.”

Middleton’s first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis was in June when she attended the Trooping the Colour ceremony in London, celebrating the “official” birthday of King Charles III, who, although still battling cancer, has resumed her public duties.

“I am progressing well, but there are good days and bad days, as anyone undergoing chemotherapy will understand,” Middleton said in a press release prior to the Trooping the Colour event. You have to give in to your body’s need for rest on those awful days when you feel weak and exhausted. On the other hand, you want to make the most of your good days when you feel stronger. I will be undergoing treatment for a few more months. When I’m feeling well enough, I enjoy participating in school activities, spending time on things that make me feel good, and occasionally starting to work from home.
