Jennie Garth, one of Shannen Doherty’s former co-stars, paid tribute to the late actress on Sunday after news of her death broke. Garth shared an old photo of the two of them together, likely taken during their time starring on “Beverly Hills, 90210” in the 1990s.
Alongside the photo, Garth wrote, “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my longtime friend Shannen, the woman I have often described as one of the strongest people I have ever known. Our connection was real and honest.”
Garth acknowledged reports of on-set tension between her and Doherty, which she has openly discussed before. In 2019, on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” Garth admitted they once had a heated argument that nearly turned physical, but they eventually reconciled and remained friends.
“We were often portrayed as rivals, but that didn’t reflect the true nature of our relationship, which was based on mutual respect and admiration,” Garth wrote. “Shannen was courageous, passionate, determined, and incredibly loving and generous. I will miss her deeply and will always honor her in my heart and memories. My heart breaks for her family, Bowie, and everyone who loved her.”
Garth’s mention of Bowie refers to Doherty’s dog, who was with her when she passed away. Shannen Doherty died on Saturday at age 53 after a long battle with cancer.
