On Friday, Eminem dropped his 12th album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), and, as expected, took the chance to call out prominent figures like Alec Baldwin and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The Grammy-winning artist, alongside fellow rapper J.I.D, tackles major current events in the ninth track, “Fuel.” This includes the multiple sexual assault allegations against Combs and the tragic shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust involving Baldwin’s prop gun.
In the song, Eminem raps, “Yeah, I’m like an R-A-P-E-R (“Yeah”). Got a lot of S-As (S-As), S-As (Huh) / Wait, did he really just spell ‘Rapper’ without a P? (Yes).” The phrase “P, did he?” cleverly resembles “P. Diddy” when performed.
As the verse continues, Eminem honors Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, connecting Tupac’s death to Combs. He raps, “RIP, Biggie, rest in peace. And Pac, both of you should still be here (Yep). But I’m not looking for trouble with him. Because he might have a hit out on me like Keefe D did on him.”
The section refers to claims that Combs allegedly paid $1 million to Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis to murder both Tupac and his manager, Suge Knight.
Eminem also raps, “Mess around and get shot like Halyna Hutchins / Like I’m Alec Baldwin, meaning I’m delivering the final blow,” towards the end of the same verse, referencing the tragic incident on the set of Rust.
